In this new Comment published in Nature Climate Change, Felix Creutzig called eminent researchers from a range of different disciplines to help establishing a synthesis of social science and engineering research for demand-side mitigation of climate change.
This common effort is in view of the next IPCC Assessment Report currently under preparation, which will contain a dedicated chapter on Demand, services, and social aspects of Mitigation.
The authors – including me and Massimo – sketch out a demand-side assessment framework and discuss briefly the key topics that should be addressed by the IPCC chapter: among others, the characterization of demand, the policy instruments affecting demand, techno-economic evaluation, well-being implications, mitigation pathways and the sustainable development concept.
